New Moon in Virgo (as told by a Virgo Rising woman)!

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

The sun and moon met in Virgo today, August 27 at 4:16 a.m. ET/1:16 a.m. PT, and with that, a new lunar cycle began. New moons typically signify new beginnings, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the sun and moon in Virgo square (meaning be at a 90° angle on the natal chart) Mars (planet of action but also of conflict and separation) in Gemini. This energy can show up as a stand-off between two areas of our lives, depending on which houses Gemini and Virgo occupy in your birth chart. If you’re not sure which houses they rule in your own chart and want to know, reach out so we can cast your birth chart!!

The planet Mercury (which deals with communication and our minds) rules both Gemini and Virgo This means the tension which may arise may spark some overthinking or being quick to respond without gathering all the information or refining the words we speak into being. Our words may become a weapon (✋🏽guilty!) or we may feel the need to respond quickly before actually taking all the aspects into account. I want to invite you to take more deep breaths and be mindful when responding this coming week, that’s really what this square is asking for.

So now that we have those cards on the table, I want to bring you back into the spirit of the New Moon! The New Moon in Virgo is another great reminder to check in with our work/life balance, our boundaries and how we balance being of service to others and our own needs (yep, hello again👋🏽).

Some questions that you might ask yourself this New Moon are: Have you been protecting and honoring your boundaries? What about your needs? Are you saying “no” when something doesn’t feel like a yes? Can you be of service to others in a way that will also honor your boundaries?

And in case you were wondering, these are priorities for me during this lunar cycle!

Virgo is the diligent, efficient, hard worker of the zodiac, only wanting to be of service and to contribute to the greater good. Those who have Virgo as their rising sign (different than your sun sign) are often known as perfectionists, carrying a reputation of being critical of themselves (and others, at times) but we love them for their detail-oriented and analytical minds. In case you didn’t know, I’m Virgo Rising🙋🏽‍♀️.

Virgo rules the 6th house on the natural chart, the house of health, daily routines and habits. We can use this New Moon energy to get on track with the minutiae of life and work toward our goals.

With the participation of Mars in this lunation, we may need to face a challenge (setting a boundary, releasing a person, place, or thing in order to make space for what you want to create, saying no when you’re aren’t a full yes). I’m not sure about you, but often times I feel my days are full! So if I want to make space for meditation, I have to release something to create the space needed for more of what I want! Priorities are key! Write them down, make a list, take stock of what fills your day (I was shocked when I actually wrote down everything I did for a few days).

As a reminder, this magic, these habits, this change you are seeking, likely won’t happen overnight, but every great journey starts with a single step, and then it’s a matter of continuing in the direction you are aiming. New Moons are great at signifying a time to check where you’re aiming your arrow of intention. Is it in the same direction you were aiming last month? Is it a new direction? Only you can decide that! Ask your heart and soul what you need rather than your brain. Remember, Mars squaring off with the sun and moon may have us overthinking… and we want to FEEL into it. Trust the process, take deep breaths, count your blessings, fill yourself with gratitude and point that arrow.
