What do you think of when you hear, "dark unknown"? Is it an emotion that stems from Love or Fear? I will admit, at first, I said "scary". That was said from a place of fear. I want to live in love, and from love the dark unknown has hidden gems, magic and curiosity!
I've been painting anglerfish for years, and I have always loved how unique they are! These creatures are Often looked over or called ugly; I think they are stunning, and I thought maybe that's why I connected with them.
Fast-forward to a couple weeks ago when I was sitting in my "energy corner" of my studio, staring (kind of blankly) across the room thinking about several 'unknowns' that have presented themselves in my life recently.
At first when all of the unknowns came crashing in, I was simply overwhelmed. I let fear take the lead and drag my imagination with it (and what an imagination I have!). But, I remembered I have a choice. I can choose to continue living in fear, or I can choose love. "From a place of love, what does that look like? ...Like that anglerfish painting I'm staring at!" I said to myself in a half-hearted chuckle.
Wait a minute, I have wayyyyy more "tools" this many years later... what is the symbolism of the anglerfish, I wondered.
The Anglerfish is a symbol of trusting your intuition, knowing you can shift and realign with where you want to (and need to) be, even in unknown, deep spaces. You have the light you need to guide you and bring nourishment into your life. I mean, are you kidding me!? you couldn't even make up a more perfect spirit guide in the moment!
Of course, I started a debate with myself about whether it was "ok" to make this animal the Spirit Guide I shared for November. "well, my spirit guide for my birthday month was going to be the penguin, because that's the stuffed animal my nana gave me when I was little and that's always been 'my animal'..." "sure, but how perfectly fitting is this guide for what YOU NEED RIGHT NOW!!?"
So that's when I decided, I'm going to share what I feel is needed, and right now I know there are a lot of unknowns for everyone, not just me.
I want to connect with the Anglerfish, trust my intuition, know that I am able to shift and realign like the anglerfish does in the depths of the ocean.
I set out to find the basic shapes which will allow me to bring this creative practice to anyone who wants to learn (No painting experience needed for my Monthly spirit guides)!
I love that part of the creation process... Really getting in touch with the guide, the different angles, different colors, different shapes... discovering what information wants to come forward and then releasing it into the world.
I'm thrilled I was able to glean the symbolism of the anglerfish at just the right time, and use it to lean into the trust that fear had tried to hide.
